1. As a non-member, how do I report a theft?
To report a theft, you need to register with our site. It takes just five minutes and allows you to access additional information and search the theft database. Register here. Once your contact information is verified, you will be contacted with your login information.

2. Is there a reward for returning or reporting stolen equipment?
There is no monetary reward—that’s not the intent of this site. By doing your part to prevent theft and stop the traffic in stolen goods, you are safeguarding our economy and our communities—and that benefits you as much as the next guy.

3. Will my company or personal information be shared with others?
No, all info is kept confidential. Data is aggregated for reporting and includes general locations, equipment type, etc. But individual and company information is never shared.

4. If my equipment is recovered, how will I be notified?
The appropriate law enforcement authority will contact you to verify that the equipment is being returned to the rightful owner.

5. How many states report oilfield theft to your website?
All 50 states, as well as Canada, are the initial intended geographic scope of this project. However, we have created the system to handle time zones, currencies, and other values from around the world. This is essentially a global network powered by local individuals like yourself.

6. Who runs this website?
StopOilfieldTheft.com is an initiative of the Association Energy Services Companies (AESC), the premier trade association of the energy service industry. Together with partners in the private sector and law enforcement, we are working to do just what our name says—stop oilfield theft.

9. Who do I contact if I suspect I may be in possession of stolen equipment?
Always contact the proper authorities, usually the investigating officer or local authorities.

10. Can I enter a stolen item if I have no serial number or part number?
Yes, but only if you have a police report that highlights some type of traceability from an asset number or specific identifier.

11. Can I enter a stolen item with no part number?

12. Can I enter a stolen item without a police report?
No. Law enforcement involvement is key to the success of this webpage.

13. Can I sign up for the newsletter even if I don’t have any equipment to report stolen?
Yes. The involvement of you and other concerned individuals is critical to the success of this initiative.

14. Does this service cost anything?
No.

15. Will you report this to my insurance company?
No, all information is kept confidential. The owner is responsible for reporting claims that have been recovered.

16. How long before my report is posted?
Your report will be posted as soon as it is verified with the police agency.

16. Who can access the webpage?
Some parts of the website are open to the general public. The secure section is accessible only to authorized members. Apply here. After verification of your information and legitimate employment, your login credentials are sent to you.

17. What police agency do I contact in my area to report my stolen equipment?
Always contact law enforcement first, before entering the incident here. Start with your local police department or sheriffs office. Use our resource section to help find the most appropriate agency.

18. How far back can I post a theft?
You may enter an incident that occurred up to 30 months ago, and you must have a police report. The statute of limitations is 36 months so someone going back 30 months would only have their theft posted for 6 months before it would be rolled into the archives.

19. If I have a piece of equipment and bring it in for repair or to sell, will it be checked to see if it is stolen?
If you bring the equipment to a StopOilfieldTheft.com participating member your equipment is subject to be checked.
